Overview

Université André Salifou de Zinder (UAZ) is a public university in Niger’s historic Zinder region, established in 2014 to expand access to higher education in eastern Niger. Named after prominent Nigerien scholar André Salifou, the university supports regional development by combining academic training with applied learning tied to local priorities, including Saharan environment research, renewable energy, and community governance. As the university strengthens its teaching capacity, it continues to attract students looking for programs connected to real-world needs in desert and semi-desert settings.

UAZ plays an important role in training teachers, healthcare workers, and agricultural specialists for Niger’s eastern regions. Through practical, field-oriented approaches, the university maintains partnerships with local communities and development organizations. It is especially recognized for work related to desertification mitigation and studies connected to traditional Saharan architecture, alongside growing efforts in community-focused public health.
