Overview

The University of Basrah, established in 1964, is one of Iraq’s largest and most prestigious public universities, located in the southern city of Basra. Initially affiliated with the University of Baghdad, it became an independent institution the same year. The university comprises 22 colleges spread across multiple campuses, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fields such as medicine, engineering, sciences, humanities, and social sciences.

With over 38,000 undergraduate students and a faculty of more than 2,800 members, including 304 full professors, the University of Basrah is a hub for academic excellence and research. It houses nine research centers focusing on areas like marine sciences, polymer studies, Arabian Gulf studies, and date palm research. The university also publishes 22 scientific journals and maintains cultural affiliations with institutions worldwide, including partnerships in the USA and Iran.
