University of Buea

Overview

The University of Buea (UB) is Cameroon’s flagship English-medium university, established in 1993 in the scenic foothills of Mount Cameroon. As the nation’s first and only predominantly English-speaking university, UB has developed a strong reputation for academic excellence in journalism, biotechnology, and African literature. The university’s unique “Mountain to Classroom” initiative integrates the rich biodiversity of Mount Cameroon into its life sciences curriculum.

Located in the Southwest Region, UB serves as an intellectual bridge between Anglophone and Francophone Cameroon. The campus features a distinctive architectural blend of modern facilities and traditional Bakweri design elements. With about 20,000 students, UB maintains a comparatively low student-to-lecturer ratio, fostering close mentorship relationships uncommon in larger Cameroonian universities.
