Overview
The University of Mohéli (Université de Mohéli) is one of the three public universities in the Comoros, located on the island of Mohéli, the smallest and least developed of the three main islands. Established to decentralize higher education and promote regional development, the university focuses on fields like environmental science, sustainable agriculture, and marine biology, reflecting Mohéli’s unique ecological landscape, including its UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve.
With a strong emphasis on local challenges such as climate resilience and food security, the university collaborates with international research institutions and NGOs. Despite its small size, it provides critical educational opportunities for Mohélian youth, reducing the need to travel to Moroni or abroad for studies. The campus fosters a close-knit academic community, with personalized attention due to smaller class sizes.
