Overview

The University of Rwanda (UR) is the nation’s flagship public university, formed in 2013 by merging seven existing institutions—including the National University of Rwanda and the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology. With its headquarters in Kigali and multiple campuses across the country, UR is the largest higher education institution in Rwanda. It serves more than 30,000 students and houses six colleges offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.

UR is known for combining academic excellence with national development goals. Its campuses host several African Centres of Excellence such as those focused on Data Science, Internet of Things, Energy for Sustainable Development, and Biomedical Engineering. These centers drive research, innovation, and regional engagement
