Overview
The University of the Republic of San Marino, established in 1985, is the only public university in the Republic of San Marino. It began its academic journey in 1988 with the founding of the Higher School of Historical Studies and has gradually grown into a small yet internationally connected institution. Based in the historic centre of San Marino City, at the ancient Monastery of Santa Chiara, the university combines a rich cultural heritage with modern academic offerings.
Despite its size, the university offers a lively intellectual environment with small class sizes and personalized mentorship. Academic partnerships with Italian institutions such as Bologna, Modena, Parma, and Venice expand its curriculum and support joint degree and exchange programs. The institution’s mission emphasizes interdisciplinary research, regional engagement, and professional readiness in engineering, design, communication, history, law, and other fields.
