Alioune Diop University

Overview

Alioune Diop University of Bamby is a public institution located in Bamby, in Senegal’s Doorbell region. Originally created as a regional university college in 2007, it became a full university in 2009 and was renamed in 2011 in honor of Alioune Diop, founder of Présence Africaine. The university was established to decentralize higher education and foster local development by offering relevant, profession-oriented programs in a rural setting.

The campus spans around 52 hectares and serves a few thousand students with modern facilities including a notable “big tree” lecture building designed to remain naturally cool. Its structure includes three research and training units focused on applied science and ICT, health and sustainable development, and economics, management, and legal engineering, along with an agricultural training institute. The university emphasizes applied research, regional engagement, and professional readiness.
