Overview
The State University of Haiti (Université d’État d’Haïti – UEH) is Haiti’s oldest and largest public higher education institution, often considered a cornerstone for academic and research development in the country. Founded in 1820, UEH offers a wide range of programs through multiple faculties and research units located in Port-au-Prince and other major cities, spanning humanities, sciences, medicine, law, and engineering.
As the leading public university in Haiti, UEH plays an important role in developing the country’s future workforce and civic leadership. While it faces common challenges for public institutions, including infrastructure constraints and resource limitations, the university continues to focus on accessible education for Haitian students. Many prominent Haitian professionals and public figures are UEH alumni.
