Overview

The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is the only public university in Zanzibar, located on Unguja Island in Mboweni, Zanzibar, Tanzania. Established in 1999 and operational from 2001, it serves as Zanzibar’s flagship institution for higher education and research on the archipelago. SUZA contributes significantly to local development by training professionals in education, health, social sciences, languages, business, and environmental studies.

SUZA comprises multiple campuses across Zanzibar, including the Tongue main campus, coastal Beit‑El‑Ras, historic Vugar campus in Stone Town, Marhub, Chakka, Mboweni, and Pemba’s Benjamin Mkapa Campus. It currently enrolls around 2,000 students and is staffed by approximately 230 academic members
