Overview
Université Boubacar Ba de Tillabéri (UBT) is a public university established in 2020 in Niger’s western Tillabéri region. Named after a prominent Nigerien educator, the university was created to address educational disparities in western Niger and promote regional development. UBT specializes in agriculture, pastoralism, and security studies – fields critical to this border region facing climate and security challenges.
The university adopts a practical, community-engaged approach to education, with strong ties to local farmers and pastoralists. UBT’s curriculum emphasizes solutions for sustainable resource management in arid environments. As the newest of Niger’s regional universities, UBT is rapidly developing its infrastructure while maintaining a focus on quality education tailored to western Niger’s specific needs.
