Overview

The University of Rwanda (UR) is Rwanda’s flagship public university, established in 2013 by merging seven institutions, including the National University of Rwanda and the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology. Headquartered in Kigali, UR operates multiple campuses across the country and is one of the largest higher education institutions in Rwanda. It serves more than 30,000 students and includes six colleges offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.

Its campuses host several African Centres of Excellence, including initiatives focused on Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), Energy for Sustainable Development, and Biomedical Engineering—areas designed to strengthen graduate training, industry-relevant research, and regional engagement.
