Puntland State University

Overview

Puntland State University (PSU), located in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia, began in 1999 as the Garowe School of Management and later became Puntland Community College. In 2004 it transformed into a state-funded university and has steadily evolved into a key regional higher‑education centre. PSU now serves several thousand students and bases its mission on contributing to Puntland’s social and economic development through relevant and impactful programs. With its growth, PSU has established campuses in Garowe, Bosaso, and Galkayo, extending access across Puntland and increasing its academic reach.

As a public university, PSU emphasizes practical, market-aligned training and research in areas like business, education, law, information technology, health sciences, and journalism. With a modest faculty size and international support from UNDP, USIU Nairobi, and other development partners, PSU seeks to elevate education standards in the region.
