Uncharted 2 is still finding its way to begin with the development, but in the maybes of the rumor mill. Although Sony hasn’t officially announced a sequel, fans are still hoping for one with a good cause including Mark Wahlberg’s movies fans.
Tom Rothman, the chairman of Sony, mentioned Uncharted in an interview as a “brand-new franchise.” But, as the saying goes, the best-laid plans of mice and movie studios often need to be revised. Hence, even if Sony desired an Uncharted sequel, it may still need to materialize.
The fact that the movie did well at the box office, earning $400 million in early 2022, is one of its plus points. Despite the lackluster critical reception, a successful opening weekend does increase the likelihood that a film will receive a sequel.
There are still details and rumors about a prospective Uncharted 2 that we may gather while we wait for positive or negative news.
When will Uncharted 2 be released?
As there has been no official confirmation, you won’t be surprised that Uncharted 2 with Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg doesn’t have a set release date.
The dates of the first movie’s production can be used as a guide to estimate a possible time period, but it’s important to emphasize that this is all just speculation.
The first Uncharted movie’s production began in July 2020 and was completed in October of the same year. In July 2021, retakes were conducted. Uncharted’s release date was delayed despite this, and it wasn’t until February 2022—a full year and a half after it had finished filming—that it eventually made its theatrical debut.
Tom Holland, who plays the lead in the film, has also declared that after finishing The Crowded Room for Apple, he will take a brief break from acting. It’s hard to blame him for wanting time off given how much he has spent time working and the other initiatives he has coming up, like Spider-Man 4.
We’ll know more about when to say hello to Nate again if/when Sony confirms Uncharted 2.
Who will be returning in the Uncharted 2 cast?
It is very basic that the hypothetical sequel would have Tom Holland reprise his role as Nathan Drake. However, he is familiar with franchises. Unlike his MCU appearances, the conclusion of Uncharted teases the possibility of further installments.
As Victor Sullivan character ‘Sully’, Nate’s mentor and father figure, Mark Wahlberg would also make a comeback.
Sophia Ali might return to the role of Chloe Frazer, a treasure hunter who temporarily fell in love with Nate in the second Uncharted game. Their glimpse of romance was shown in the first film, but it ended with them being rivals after Nate misdirected Chloe about where the wealth was kept.
Sam, Nate’s brother, who Nate believes is dead, was hinted at in the credits scene (this was also a central plot point in the game Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End). Although Sam might have a significant role in the sequel, who might play him has yet to be discovered.
Braddock was later struck by a ship and killed, but since we didn’t see her body, it’s possible that she lived. While it’s doubtful, you can’t rule anything out in a world where Nate can jump off a cargo plane and walk away unharmed.
Elena Fisher, who serves as Nate’s primary love interest in the video games, could be a potential new character in the sequel. She will appear in the film adaptations at some point because they marry and have a daughter in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
How does the Uncharted 2 finale build up the story?
Uncharted is an independent origin narrative because the bad guys are eliminated, and Nate and Sully discover wealth. Unfortunately, Sully must forfeit his find to spare Nate’s life, although Nate left some gold for his new boss.
During the opening credits scene, continued existence in a prison cell was a significant sequel tease. When mailing a postcard to Nate, he is seen telling him to “watch your back,” however, it is unclear if this is a warning about a potential threat or merely a general comment about Sully’s sketchiness.
Sam and Sully were searching for the treasure together when Braddock shot Sam. Sully didn’t assist him; he left Sam to perish. Sam could harbor a grudge, and we wouldn’t blame him.
Yet, aside from Sam’s significant reappearance in Nate’s life, there is little information regarding what might occur in the sequel. The first film was not a straight adaptation of any video game series, although many elements inspired it in the games.
Uncharted 2 will not directly adapt the games as the movie changes how Nate and Sully met and Nate and Sam’s history. (But there are four more video games to draw from, including the second Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.)
