Overview
Kyambogo University, established in 2003 through the merger of three institutions, is one of Uganda’s largest public universities located on Kyambogo Hill in Kampala, approximately 8 km east of the city center. It currently serves over 33,000 students and comprises six faculties, six schools, and an institute offering undergraduate, postgraduate, vocational, and distance education in fields such as engineering, science, agriculture, special needs, education, business, arts, social sciences, computing, and the built environment.
Kyambogo is known for its practical orientation, with an emphasis on hands-on learning, research, and community service. The university hosts the Faculty of Special Needs & Rehabilitation—one of the most distinctive options of its kind in the region—and strengthens employability through applied training in engineering and vocational programs. Kyambogo is also continuing to expand campus infrastructure through projects such as student accommodation and a multi-purpose sports complex under public-private partnership arrangements, aimed at supporting growing student numbers.
